The review titled How to have safe sex on the world’s best dating apps explains, “There is no safe way to have casual sex. As such, any tool that offers security in an app-based world is a good thing. Whether you hook up with someone you met on Grindr, Bumble, or Happn, dating apps encourage what can be an extremely exciting, vulnerable time for both individuals but can also — for many people, especially young people — be quite scary and fraught.”
The dangers of casual sex are, as is common for human action, endless. The review continues, “Using an app lets you meet people without having to go to a social venue where you can’t talk to them at ease. This can seem like the safer choice. However, this also means you have less control over the conversation, which may not be attractive to the other person.”
Not feeling confident in casual hookups? Then avoid using apps like Badoo, Whisper, or Scruff. Start by hooking up with someone you have been on a date with before and then having an app or text conversation to determine what type of partner you would like.
Can casual sex make you happy?
The New York Times recently published an article titled The Happy Hookup, in which writer Vanessa Marcotte examines “the joy of casual sex,” exploring the kind of sex people would have if it didn’t matter how they felt, if they just felt “pretty damn good” (Thanks, Fox).
Marcotte writes, “A casual sex encounter doesn’t have to be so awful. Casual sex can actually improve a person’s mood. In a 2002 study, five hundred and sixty-five people who’d had casual sex since they were younger than twenty-one reported a significant improvement in their quality of life.”
But what does that even mean? Firstly, Marcotte writes that casual sex doesn’t mean casual sex:
You know what’s crazy? Casual sex does not mean having sex with people who don’t care about you, who are willing to do anything just for the good time. It can mean having an agreement in advance about what you would like to do, what you would like to talk about, and how you would like to communicate afterward. There may be no commitment whatsoever.
Dating apps are no strangers to hooking up. But that casual sex (or

This pressure to hook up can lead to having — and even seeking out — sex when you don’t really, genuinely want it.
Not That It’s The Only Way To Have An Extra-Satisfying Night:
The institution of marriage has been deeply flawed for centuries.
In fact, for the first couple of thousands of years, women typically didn’t marry at all. Not only was it unusual for a woman to rule over a household, in addition to being able to have and raise children, women were also sometimes responsible for raising children for her family — when the father died, the mother was a woman in her 40s or 50s in most cases. It wasn’t all grim, but the reality of family responsibilities was still limited. (The book “Her Way: Two Women Who Changed The Way We Think About Women in Business” by Sharon Garteig and Deborah Lipstadt chronicles the lives of these amazing women, who have continued to do tremendous things in business over the past two millennia. You should at least be aware of the most obvious, long-term health problems of casual sex.
And You Should Have Been Well-Prepared For This:
Unfortunately, though there are a few alternatives to casual sex, none of them — like any type of relationship — have a foolproof method for preventing STDs.
In addition to the increased risk of contracting an STI, casual sex can create an increased risk of pregnancy. For many single people — especially those without a uterus — using a form of birth control is necessary to prevent pregnancy. Most people don’t use birth control when they do have sex with new partners, but there are ways to do your best to stay safe. In an effort to reduce pregnancy rates, the CDC advises people to use condoms at every sexual encounter. And studies show that women are more likely to use condoms if they’re aware of being in a non-traditional relationship, meaning that casual sex can usually lead to more safe sex.
In addition to the increased risk of contracting an STI, casual sex can create an increased risk of pregnancy. The struggle that comes with casual sex, then, is that without that commitment of any sort to a sexual partner, you’re not really protecting yourself as well.
There are also other ways to reduce your risk of pregnancy when you’re engaging in casual sex, but they’re probably more complicated. For example, using a form of birth control that relies on
