You are now controlling your army with a mouse! What? Real time strategy games are normally played on keyboard and mouse, but surprisingly, these games are still with you! With the mouse you can select units to move around, see their status, and move them with a mouse. You can also move a unit away from your tower by using the mouse. With the left click, you move your units, and the right click, you attack your enemy.
Developers of the game also add additional techs like Siege Towers, Troop Transports, Carts and Marksmen because you must be careful to ensure that your army can hold a siege for long without food and water.
All in all, Stronghold helped its franchise grow thanks to the additions and improvements over the first game. There are some minor issues but they dont really bother you in your gameplay experience and the other versions of this game do well to add more content. If youre interested in real-time historical strategy games, this is a good entry to try out in this series.
The fourth game was Stronghold Legends and adds the new mechanic of controlling both human and mythical armies. The next game released was Stronghold: Crusader Extreme, which was basically Crusader but has extra content. Surprisingly, the series tries the path of a free-to-play MMO-style game with Stronghold Kingdoms. However, it came back to its roots with the next several installments: Stronghold 3, Stronghold Crusader II, and Stronghold: Warlordsalthough none of them really beat the solid gameplay of the first ones.
