director vikram singh, the son of former bollywood actress sheela gujral, doesnt know what he wants to do with his movies, and certainly not with this. kal kissne dekha. he does a number of things really well, including the use of a beautiful old song by mehdi hassan in savitri. but what he doesnt do is anything interesting. certainly not in a movie that builds on the lives of a couple of addicts who think they are experiencing the throes of love. when a tiger and his doggie companion start watching a boy and his girl indulge in passion, the plot situation makes no sense. but does that matter?

films have been made before about opiated addiction, and this isnt one of them. or does it? singh seems intent on photographing the smoky haze of drug-induced euphoria, a feeling best depicted by the distended eyes of its high-seas captain, played by mohit raina. its one of the few times singh seems aware of the problems he is creating and he indulges in some broad strokes, looking at the devastating consequences of drugs. but singh and his co-writers get too engaged with the ecstasy of getting stoned and then making movies of the fakeness of getting high. the story goes back and forth between the euphoria and making movies of that high. its confusing to watch, and its difficult to take seriously because its not clear what singh means to be getting at. the first 45 minutes of this film are made up of a series of disconnected events that together make for a half-sensible story. but this is no savior of the art of filmmaking.
