but if you’re in a pinch, grab a tote or tote/totes. i brought multiple tote/totes for multiple occasions. toiletries are a huge pain for baby’s first couple of months so i usually keep two of each with me and swap what i use up.
i found that i didn’t need to pack things like diapers and wipes. my sister is pregnant with her second and has a great diaper bag, and my mother was just given a gift certificate to buy my sister some for her second baby. my mom (my sister actually) and my sister had done a ton of research and were also great friends with a friend of my husband’s family who had a newborn and was generous with her advice on how to store and wash diapers. they were also great friends with a friend of my husband’s family who had a newborn and was generous with her advice on how to store and wash diapers. i didn’t need to pack diapers or wipes! i did pack a couple washcloths though because i found that was where i’d run out of one on the few occasions where i’d need to use it. not sure why i’d need more than that but i didn’t have a hard time finding them!
many mamas worry about different things at different times – some about safety, some about work or school, some about watching your diet, others about money or housework. this list is about things you need to worry about only when you’re having a baby. if you are only worried about this list, you can avoid worrying about anything else.,of course, you can still worry about any of these things, but now the worry can be put into perspective. these are things that really only become a concern after a child is born and there’s no way to prevent them, so you need to be prepared in the event they do happen. #10 – labor and delivery. imagine having to have your baby at home – can you go shopping? well, if you don’t have access to a car or public transport and are at home with a potentially colicky baby that won’t sleep, you are going to have to either a) stay up all night and have a friend or relative or b) take a taxi the 30 blocks between your house and the hospital. there is no way to get around this. you cannot run or drive a child 30 blocks. they will scream, become colicky, and will generally make your life a living hell. then there’s the time when you end up having a c-section or any other kind of surgery after they’re born and you’re still in labor. and what happens to the baby when you go home from the hospital? is the air conditioning going to make them sneeze or will they get colds or who knows what? will you have to pay the bill? all these things should be covered by insurance when you know you’re pregnant, but what if you get hit by a drunk driver and you have to pay to get to the hospital? do you have any idea what will happen to your baby or what to do if they get really sick? how are you going to feed your baby if you have to work through the night and it takes hours for their parents to get to the hospital and you have no more food to give them? how are you going to get to the hospital if the baby is due any day now and you want to go but you have to work? i am, by no means, a doctor or an expert on anything, but i know a lot of women that have to deal with this first time around. i’m taking care of my own little girl, but i can’t imagine what kind of day it’s going to be like with two babies that need my attention. obviously, i’ll be taking my car to the store so i can go shopping if i need to as i wouldn’t want to wake up one morning to find no car keys and the car sitting at the bottom of the driveway, but why do you have to get a car in the first place? are you sure you can’t stay home with your baby? i’m really not worried about any of this when i’m in my pre-baby body, but if it’s your first child and you know you’re going to have a baby, i’d suggest that you figure this out now. #4 – breastfeeding. breastfeeding is the best thing about having a baby. it gives mom the nourishment she needs to give her baby the best possible start in life. women all around the world birthed babies with out of their mothers’ breasts.
