A hands-on review of Adobe Photoshop Elements 2021 reveals a powerful image-editing program at a very affordable price. Though it is designed to be a simple platform for hobbyists, “memory keepers” and digital scrapbookers who enjoy creating photo and video keepsakes of life events for family and friends, it’s relevant, in my opinion, for anyone with a camera. You can now add text directly to a canvas in Photoshop. This makes it easier to add text and other layers to your work without having to add a new canvas. Previously, you could simply add text to a new canvas and then place that on top of a background layer.
There is now much more information displayed when you save project files. This will enable you to see the new progress indicators and better manage your projects. Additionally, you will be able to see application versions, platform-specific differences and file version information.
When saving projects, you can now select specific file types to exclude in the ‘Save as type’ dialog. This includes Adobe Illustrator SVG files, as well as file types that won’t be displayed on the canvas or exported image.

This new version of Photoshop is equipped with a modern UI and offers a new type of versatility when it comes to working on images. With features making it easier to work with shapes and layers, this update has also arrived with enhanced capabilities for retouching.
This new ‘faders’ feature helps make use of the layers that you’ve applied to a photo, letting you “fade” portions of the image based on your own artistic direction. Most of the tools from the pro version have made their way into the program and Elements comes with more than 1,600 individual tools, the most in any version.

I know this is our seventh version since we started 30 years ago, but we’re always working on new features and improvements. We keep looking backwards and forwards for new possibilities and new solutions. And there has never been an Adobe day I wasn’t working on new features for Photoshop and Lightroom.
