After working in Photoshop, I moved to Lightroom. It took me some time to understand the workflow, but I have to say that now I prefer Lightroom for some of the things I used to do in Photoshop. Admittedly I have the luxury of having a computer specialized for editing, while I have to use a low-end MacBook for casual web browsing, watching TV and family fun.

Lightroom 5.0 is a good piece of software, even if it is geared towards one purpose. Lightroom 5.0 adds vastly more features to make photographers’ lives easier. It works simultaneously with Adobe Elements, which gets you most of the same inspiration for when to use what, and then Kofax for image capture. The overall effect is like an image processing trunk with room for anything.

This year, Adobe has started to focus on speed and high-end features. It’s evident in the overall speed improvements and, as a result, faster workflow. But, it’s in the highlights and lower-level settings which you probably won’t notice, but can potentially enhance your experience for the better.

A state-of-the-art tool, Adobe Photoshop has been on the professional creative tool scene since 1998. With it, you can convert, enhance, and manipulate any image to be your best work. If you are one of the few designers who design from scratch or are interested in altering a client’s work, Photoshop is a great tool to have.

When choosing Adobe Photoshop, you have to decide if you need photo editing software or photo manipulation software. If photo editing is what you are interested in, then the standard version of Adobe Photoshop would meet your needs.

One of the cooler utilities that can be used with Photoshop is (File > New > Raster to Vector > Import Image > New Raster to Vector) or (File > New > Raster to Vector) and then you could potentially import the shape into Adobe Illustrator. It is definitely a more tedious process that has to be done at once and longer to accomplish, but it is an interesting and neat trick to learn. It’s not actually copying anything, it creates a duplicate shape that can then be used as a shape layer in Photoshop.

Another thing you have to take into consideration is how much room Photoshop requires. I have always thought that Adobe’s size of 170 MB was crazy for how simple Photoshop is, but I guess my limited experience with space and software efficiency is slightly different from someone else’s. Regardless, I think that being able to save files to the cloud is phase one of the informed millennial. That being said, I also have a 3x3GB SD card. We will, sadly, develop a better connection between the cloud and the SD card in the future.
