Create a vertical text line
We need to first create a vertical text line. Go to “Create > Paths > Make” and create a shape with the following settings:
You are now going to enter the text line, enter “Line 1” and then go to Edit > Preferences > General and check the “Shape Text” box, that way you can manipulate the text line in “Edit > Preferences > Appearance”, where you can set the settings that we will use to position and write the text:
The next step is to create a shape and import the text line that we made in the previous steps. You can choose to create a shape or to create a mask to hide an area of the picture, simply go to “Create > Paths > Make” and create a shape:
Your path is ready, so now you can create a new text line, enter “Line 2” and place it at the bottom of the shape, positioning the text under Line 1. After that, go to Edit > Preferences > General and check the “Shape Text” box.
Add a shadow for the text line
As you can see, the text is quite high, so we are going to add some shadow to make things more visible. The settings are the following:
By default, the text line has no shadow, so we will add one to each of the text lines, go to Edit > Stroke

Went to Ring 2 on Saturday to “walk the course” for sure. During the first sign up, the volunteers let me through the first level but it was just too tight. I found out later that I was in the 1,800 yarders, I think I was first in my group and that was 3,200 yards. Still a good sign up for sure.I walked the last portion twice, once without a birdy, and once with one. Had only been on the course once before.
Was there, walked the course in the time of the eclipse (no one else) and saw I could, literally, walk it. No other runners or walkers. I’ve run it before but not walked it. It was windy but not bad. I’m ready to run it again. I wish I had known people were setting up by the time I went walking but no one was around so, went alone and finished a mile short.
Walked it last year and ran it before that. I wasn’t thinking a lot about the clock like some runners are, it was just me and this course. Much more fun than I remembered. I don’t think I’d be in my usual pickle-ketchup-and-mayonnaise run at this point. I’ll take it easy and go walk more courses, like C&C, this one and the Ocean Trails one.
I was surprised that it was so crowded at the end, I was hoping for a better crowd. Not only that, but we had a mild rain and the ground was rocky when we walked. That kept lots of people from walking the last part of the course. I think that probably included the last stretch of the 10K. We went at first light to avoid the crowds and were the only ones that were there.
I don’t know why I bother to get on the computer for longer than 4 hours at a stretch. I promise myself to not check it every 15 minutes and it goes away. It’s only been 2 weeks since last time I tried to not check it for a longer time. I’m trying to begin a new habit and it’s not easy with the times I’m in. It’s boring, yes. But, I’m not doing anything else, I’m just not doing anything else.
I’m going to try to use the computer once and a day, I’m probably going to have to automate my time, and then try for 72 hours without it.
