While casual sex may be the headline here, the latest statistics on cheating are important to remember: The number of people who are “seriously or not at all” in relationships has nearly tripled since 1980. Additionally, the percentage of Americans who are “living a double life,” or having more than one sexual partner, is more than twice as high as it was during the 1980s and 1990s.
Founded in Germany in 2005, Tinder has grown to over 400 million matches and 100 million users around the world. Ever since its rise, a slew of imitators have been cropping up, with the latest being Hinge, another online dating app which opened for public in June 2017. Hinge, however, takes a different approach compared to its older-fashioned counterparts. Rather than giving users the selection of single men and women on a daily basis, Hinge’s focus is on introducing people to mutual friends, suggesting dinner, and even introducing those who live a 10-minute walk away from each other to date one another. With Hinge, you can start meeting people even before you’ve officially chosen to use its services and collect their email addresses.
Hookup culture dominates the attitudes and values of the world. No one in society today would dare to say that sex and relationships should be handled with dignity. People expect to get physical more often and in more accessible places. Up until the late 90s, things were much more simple — you either hooked up or you didn’t. Now, the number of people who do not have sex in their lifetime (which includes those who delay or avoid sex) is more than forty percent of our population. We are searching for places where we can have sex immediately with a possible partner. The average age of a person who has sex on a daily basis is becoming higher.
Casual sex is, and has been for decades, a big part of American culture. It’s not, however, a totally socially accepted idea. Some may argue that it’s better than being in a long-term committed relationship, which can be unpredictable, stressful, and even lonely. But what if we said casual sex is bad for you? This may sound crazy, but it may actually be true.

Whether it’s casual or not, sex is still a very powerful motivator. Not surprisingly, everyone wants to have it.

You’ve probably heard the phrase “casual sex” tossed around with various degrees of derision. The naysayers claim that it’s immoral or even aids and abets sexual assault, depression, and other ills. But is casual sex actually bad for you?
No. But casual sex has its downsides too, and this is only to make the point that it comes in all shapes and sizes. If you engage in regular safe sex, you’re more likely to have fewer partners, which helps keep risk down. However, if you put yourself into a potentially dangerous situation – by getting into a sexual encounter without thought, you have the potential to get hurt.
Most casual sex encounters are enjoyable and enjoyable is all relative. There can be several different motivations for becoming involved in casual sex. Financial strains can drive some people to have uncommitted sex to avoid having to devote any time or effort into a relationship that might not pan out. Other people have a need to find new connections in a city they live in. Other people like to casually fuck on a series of one night stands. Still others are simply using casual sex as a reward for committing to a long term relationship, or out of boredom.
Health Care Has Not Expected Healthy Casual Sex?
The primary concern that casual sex should not be viewed as healthy is a result of the fact that it is not a mutually agreed upon choice. The most well-adjusted people will not find “sexual fulfillment” when they are forced by the court of public opinion to have sex with a person they don’t want to be with, do not trust, or simply do not find sexually attractive. What is important to recognize is that this kind of casual hooking up is the norm for most people. Part of this is because of the public’s great fear of contracting and/or spreading STDs, which can be incredibly crippling. However, there is a way to hook up that is both safe and pleasurable.
