Adobe Photoshop Elements is built on a tabbed workspace, letting you easily toggle between toolsets to let your brain adapt to different tasks. If you want to tailor your workflow using an entirely new toolset, you can easily do so by switching to it, then coming back to Photoshop when you’re done.
My favorite thing about Photoshop is the organization of tools into “groups.” You can, for example, easily select hundreds of individual pixels with the Magic Wand tool and organize them with a useful command. Anytime you want to make a similar change to a large cluster, you can do so with a single tool, forgoing tedious copy-and-paste approaches.
If you pull up the Toolbox and click Window, you’ll see a new button at the very top of the workspace, labeled Edit, and split into two submenus. The commands for adjusting your view (Camera, Lens, and other toolsets) are on the left; the tools that you use to edit images are on the right.
That said, batch processing (run preset/filter/etc. for multiple images) is still not in Preview in Lightroom 5, as of this review (beta version of 5 reviewed). Split previews are supported in Lightroom 5, however. You can also preview the actions now and, if you like, choose to edit without running the action.
Lightroom 5 also has a range of useful, newly-added to the program, features. In-Camera Raw is now available in Lightroom 5, enabling one to process RAW files in-camera using the Apple Preview interface, which requires no computer. Without a computer, one can now also use Apple’s in-app Shooting Help. Using both In-Camera Raw and Shooting Help, one can select a camera body and choose to download the necessary corrections. The next feature is known as ‘Guided Edit’. It allows you to search for a specific color in the image and enhance it, but it’s only available in Photoshop CC and Photoshop CC mobile.
