Two major technology firms have a major clash over how much Google should pay them for using each other’s technology.

Google is asking for more money because it can put the software on Android phones for free and take a profit. Samsung says this kind of model undermines the firm’s business model.

Shares in Samsung were down almost 7% at lunchtime in Seoul after rumours circulated that Google was demanding a lot more money.

Some analysts said a €14bn (£10.3bn) deal was being negotiated, although that’s just the proposed initial payment. A single payment over five years of €10.25bn would cover the remaining payments.

“Samsung was just about to announce an upcoming smartphone called Galaxy S IV, but the postponement is related to the Google-Samsung row, which has also taken on a regional dimension.

“Google is demanding a lot more, but Samsung has put the ball back in Google’s court.”

Google has been using Samsung’s technology for almost a decade. The two companies signed a deal in 2007 worth an estimated £5m.

But Samsung wants more now. A spokesman in Seoul said the dispute is about the amount of money the South Korean tech giant receives from Android per device sold, as it is starting to cannibalise its own Windows Phone mobile phone business.

“The company made clear that, as Google’s mobile operating system is running on Samsung’s smartphones, the communication standard for Android was the key issue and the company was demanding more money,” the spokesman said.

“The use of Google Play on smartphones was integral to Samsung’s business model. If Google’s demands are met, then Samsung will need to significantly change its business model.”

Google said in a statement that it wants to keep things amicable for both companies, but that as Android is open source software, the two firms “do not have standardised revenue terms”.

“The decision to offer Android as open source was made deliberately by the Android OS team with a clear understanding of the revenue implications.”

Well, the combat is certainly interesting. You need to kill the enemies before the timer runs out, though you really do have to pull off a murder spree in order to win.

Once my enemies are dead, I can just move around and farm items or get healed up by the Knights, so it’s kind of like a first-person dungeon crawler.

But the flying over all the city blocks is pretty cool. I find myself scaling the tiers of buildings and sneaking down onto rooftops, seeing the layout of the nearby locations, and looking for any enemies that might be lurking.

Also, the Dead Guardian and the Goddess of Battle don’t look so bad. I assume that if you were to remove the abilities to learn the secrets of your weapons, and instead just have them available to stock, you would lose these visual improvements and just look like a default character.

I also think that the weapons and armor would look much more interesting if they had the effects that they actually have in game.
