“The game took me about a week to beat during my first play through, and I was looking forward to getting back into it when my wife and I received her copy of the game for our wedding anniversary. I’m glad we picked this game up, even though it’s just a single player game.
Chances are that you don’t know anything about the “world” in which Blade & Soul is set, at least not before making it to level 70. It’s as close to “Kung Fu School of hard Knocks” as you could get without an action RPG, to be honest. Level 1 is a pretty standard dungeon crawl where you clear out the area with your starting equipment and your bare hands, but it’s a damn good game to just start playing.
What you may not know is that the game also works as an “Alfheim Online” clone, if you know what I mean. Alfheim had a good long run, but from what I remember, it was essentially a fantasy version of every F2P fantasy MMO of the time, and I don’t think much of it.
Blade & Soul is a lot less cheesy, though. At first, the main story for one of your characters is that he’s a sorcerer who was taken to the underworld by a demon lord and has been reincarnated into the world without his soul. In order to regain his soul and save the girl he loves, he needs to defeat the demon lord. Simple, right?
Wrong.
One of the most difficult things to get used to about any Blade & Soul experience is the sheer number of options that it has to offer. If you were to imagine that every single aspect of your character has a counterpart, you could pretty much have a good idea of how many things you can tweak at your disposal.
If you run a critical hit spell instead of a basic hit, you will deal extra damage to the enemy. If you drink more potions, you will use up your special energy faster, but the effect you get from drinking them will be increased as well. If you have a talent that grants an energy shield on your body, you will gain bonuses to all stats if you stay in the vicinity of the shield. The list goes on and on.
