Annie Kearns, the game designer, is an old friend of mine. When we were kids, she built a beautiful fairy kingdom and had one of the hardest jobs trying to get it finished. She told me that one day she would make a great game about it. Well, a few years later, she did. In a way, I can make a comparison to my friend Trudy Hart. Trudy has always been designing computers for her entire life, but she has never written a game. A few years ago, I read her computer books and saw how she worked. She said she would make a game about writing. Well, the same thing is happening with me. I am an old friend of hers and, one day, I will design a game for her. Her game is The Creator of Space and she is the hero.
There is a special relation between Trudy’s game and Nancy’s game. Trudy designed her game from what she wanted her game to be. That was the basis of the work. I had the same thing in mind when I created Nancy Drew: The Creature of Kapu Cave.
But how did I do it?
Trudy and I started by brainstorming. We talked a lot about ideas and the conditions for this challenge. We started off with a box of ideas. There were boxes with fantastic creatures, spaceships, weapons, costumes, scenes, characters. Since Trudy and I had the same kind of imagination, we used the same box for inspiration. We went through the box and made labels with the things that interested us. We got to the section where the ideas on the box got really great. That’s when Trudy started to draw. She drew great things and she made them in boxes and cans with scotch tape. That way, she had everything in order and it was easy for me to start putting ideas in the game. I made some amazing labels and some fantastic scenes. I made so many objects and scenes that it was really hard for me to find the right combination. I tried to make every label and every scene work so that they fit well in the game. It took a long time.
I had never made a game before. I was used to writing. I had worked as an editor before, but I had never designed a game. And I had never made a game with point-and-click gameplay. I thought about all the aspects of the game at the same time. I put these things in

In Nancy Drew: The Creature of Kapu Cave, you take the role of Nancy Drew in her third case as the amateur sleuth. You and two companions, Vanessa Randall and George Fayne, visit New York City and the home of Nancy’s cousin,

Katherine and her sister, Constance Marlowe, have recently moved to New York after being forced to move out of their father’s home in River Heights, where there was a murder and a mysterious death. It has been years since you have seen the two sisters. You suspect that the sisters might know something about the deaths and decide to call on them at their hotel. But what is their connection to the sisters? Why did they disappear and where have they gone?

In addition to exploring New York and its various locations, such as the Statue of Liberty, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Brooklyn Bridge, the Empire State Building, Grand Central Station, and the Museum of Natural History, you will investigate clues and puzzles as you attempt to discover the identity of the victim in the mysterious death and the cause of the disappearance of the Marlowe sisters.
