my biggest gripe with the resident evil games is that the story didnt ever really build up to what i thought the game would be. its main reason for existence is to serve as a prequel leading into the franchise’s blockbuster fifth entry. sure, the ending to the latest game is a twisted reflection of the series so far, but i always hoped we’d be diving deeper into the plot this time. instead, we get a five-minute recap of the plot from another game, a minor character who appeared in previous films, and a few cutesy scenes of characters hanging out in a post-apocalypse. its like complaining that inception didnt show us how they flew to the other side of the universe. it goes without saying that no game could pull that sort of thing off. and the reason there are games is because films like resident evil cannot.

i wanted to love the resident evil films. despite anderson’s flat direction, the first films were freakish masterpieces. since then, they have been bogged down by poor storytelling, loose plotting, and a reliance on gore as opposed to scary scares. anderson was a young director who found his niche at the right time with a stupidly (and very successfully) timed franchise. despite that success, nobody is going to hire him to direct a horror film ever again. after five films, anderson failed to move the needle and the series quickly grew stale. his films-which are as exciting as the series they seek to imitate-are dumb and childish. while the series has made a few attempts to move beyond the action-themed installments that defined the genre in the early 2000s, by anderson’s time as the series’ leader, the films had become the film that werent even cinema. the last incarnation of the series is a weird combination of pre- and post-big-willow michael bay-era disaster movies (not the best iteration of either style), ripe with the same boring action sequences, and even more silly dialogue.

resident evil extinction is the latest installment in the eponymous franchise and the final entry in the series. the game is set in the year 2018 and after raccoon city, where the first resident evil game took place, the player must continue the story. this time, the player is a woman, named claire redfield, who awakes after a car accident, in a facility called xtinction, along with her father. the facility is covered with hazardous materials, allowing the player to explore the premises and find clues about what has happened to her and her friends. the plot focuses on a conspiracy led by the umbrella corporation, which survived the events in the first resident evil game. umbrella seems to be responsible for the murder of the president of the united states and the attack on the city of raccoon city, and now wants to control the biohazard situation as part of its plan. the inconsistencies in the plot and the plethora of plot holes are noted by critics.
after the events in resident evil 6, where the video game industry is under attack from a worldwide biohazard epidemic, the player’s father dies in the car accident that caused the incident. this is one of the reasons why the player must continue the story of the franchise, and is why the game is called resident evil extinction. in the game, the player is a woman, named claire redfield. the player controls the game using a motion-controlled camera that has the functionality of a video game controller. in the game, the player can use guns, lasers, plasmids, and vehicles, like motorcycles and bicycles, to defeat enemies and solve puzzles. the game’s graphics are similar to the previous games in the series. the game features clothing, such as shirts, jeans and jackets, which change the player’s appearance. the game also features a variety of weapons that change the player’s appearance. the player can use them to fight enemies and solve puzzles. the game also has two modes: story mode and survival mode. the survival mode is the main mode of the game. the player can unlock new items by defeating enemies and solving puzzles. they can also use items that they have collected in the game. survival mode features a limited number of lives, and a limited number of items. the player can save their progress at any time.
