You can’t ever predict how many times a piece of music is used and how it will be used.”

In terms of the game’s release, he says: “I’m very happy with the way it turned out, I think we did some really good stuff with it.”

For the soundtrack, Danks reworked the Jesus and Mary Chain-esque storm-and-light arrangement and added a few less-obvious tracks. “The intention behind it was always to help balance the pace of the game a little bit, and get a song in when we could,” he says. “At the same time it’s also the first song that we did. I love the song; it’s probably one of my favourite songs.”

Danks attributes his approach to soundtrack creation to a “love of music”. While he often works with a team, his approach remains solo: “I just sit there with a guitar and sing.”

For me, one of the most challenging aspects of music is writing for a situation without having some sort of knowledge, a script, a history; the only thing is to imagine how this could be.
