This is a free computer software program that is used for receiving and sending QSY CW signals. The program is intended for amateur use, but may also be used by ham radio operators, including FCC licensees.
Receiving:
This is a CW receiver and it must be connected to a CW transmitter. You must add the frequency you wish to receive on to your radio, and set the wireless receiver to “scan” the airwaves. The radio must be set to receive “short” reception, generally 20 milliseconds or less between detection of the TX and TX. If the packet is of a quality that should be received a gain will be provided so that its strength is easier to hear. It is best if the amount of gain is automatically set, however you can also set it manually on the receiver if you prefer. When transmitting, the gain can be set as low as possible while still maintaining a good signal-to-noise ratio. Please note that the receiver should be set to a “detected” setting if you are receiving a computer generated signal. QSY WSJT is capable of decoding these signals with a sub-second delay time, which has become important in recent times because of the growth in the popularity of the internet. If you do not have a sub-second delay on your radio, setting to “detected” will tell the radio to use the TX as detected by the radio, which may not be the TX that you actually wanted to transmit. You should have a delay of at least one second between transmissions to prevent this problem. You can also set the radio to “beat” for scanning for weak signals.
The QSY WSJT program is capable of receiving up to 3 wireless signals at once, however you may also be able to select one channel or one QSY only. If you are able to choose, you may select to receive only CW, or just CW on the fly, a very useful feature for people who wish to communicate back-and-forth on short QSOs. If this is the case, set the receiver to the channel for QSY WSJT, and manually select the QSY signal you wish to transmit with. The QSY editor can be set to any QSY of up to 36. A WSJT project file is included on the CD. The included WSJT.exe starts, but only a small icon appears. (This is because WSJT, by nature, is a “server” program and it will not run without a window being displayed.)
Any floppy disk can be used to start WSJT. Just insert the disk containing the WSJT project file and start the program. WSJT will be started from the disk.
When WSJT is opened, it automatically creates a project file that contains the options and settings that will be used to communicate with the user.
